Original 1950s British Men's Cream Wool Cricket Flannels

SOLD

Code: 52347

An original pair of British made men's cream flannels dating from the 1950s.

This style of trousers was extremely popular with men throughout the first half of the 20th Century. They were usually worn with a boating or club blazer with matching tie and cream shoes. A boater hat or cricket cap was often worn with this ensemble. They were also worn for sporting events and are now often referred to as 'cricket flannels' because of their affiliation with the sport.

The trousers are cut in a typically 1950s fashion featuring a high rise waist and wide leg with a turn up to the cuff. The fly fastens with buttons and the front features twin pleats and angled slash pockets to the hips, typical of the period. Tabs with buttons are located to each hip which would have originally been joined by a piece of elastic to adjust the waist. This has been removed but does not affect the trousers when worn. A single pocket is found at the rear of the trousers which fastens with a button.

The trousers will suit someone of around a 36" waist depending on desired fit and when laid flat measure -

Waist - 18"
Rise - 14 1/2"
Rear rise - 19"
Inside leg - 34"
Outside leg - 46 1/2"
Cuff - 9 1/2"

The trousers are in reasonable condition for their age with various signs of wear and use and there is some staining. There are a number of small period repairs as shown in the pictures as well as some light staining which again can be viewed in the pictures. Please study them carefully and bear in mind that these are a pre-worn vintage item with some flaws.

A goodoriginal pair of 1950s cream flannel trousers which whilst far from perfect are very wearable.
