Original 1940s British Blue Double Breast Three Piece Suit

SOLD

Code: 52171

An original 1940s  British made three piece blue pinstripe suit in good condition.

This suit is typical of those made in the UK during the 1930s and 1940s. It is made from a blue wool cloth which features a cream and electric blue pinstripe.

The jacket is a double breasted, peak lapel example - typical of the period. The large peaked lapels both feature button holes which is a nice feature. An angled welt pocket is located to the chest whilst flapped lower pockets are located towards the bottom of the coat. The jacket is cut short in the body - a style often referred to as 'bum freezer', which is again typical of the era. The interior is fully lined with a black rayon material and there is an interior pocket.

The waistcoat is a five button example and is made from a matching cloth. It is lined with the same material as used for the sleeves of the jacket. It features four welt pockets to the front and the usual cinch back belt and buckle to the rear.

The trousers are cut in a keeping with the period and feature a wide leg and high rise waist. A cuff is fitted to the bottom of the leg as was de rigueur during the 1930s and 1940s. They feature a fishtail back which is a nice period detail and a button fly as is usual to find on British suits of this era. More buttons are fitted around the waist and are designed to support braces. The trousers feature twin pleats to the front, slash pockets to each side and a single rear pocket.

The suit comes complete with its original braces and pocket square (not pictured). The braces have lost their elasticity but the pocket square is still good. These are included with the suit as they form part of its history.

The suit is a small size and will suit a shorter person of around a 36" chest. When laid flat it measures -

Jacket
Chest - 19"
Inside arm - 16 1/2"
Outside arm - 23"
Shoulders - 17 1/4"
Length - 26 1/2"

Waistcoat
Chest - 19"
Length - 21"

Trousers
Waist -15"
Inside leg - 25 1/2"
Outside leg - 38"
Rise - 14 1/4"
Rear rise - 18 1/2"
Cuff - 9 1/2"

The suit is in good condition with some signs of age and use. There is some minor discolouration, particularly across the shoulders although this may come out with professional cleaning. There is a small hole to the rear of the jacket and another small period repair. Both these flaws are only noticeable on close inspection and detailed in the pictures. Overall the suit is very wearable but does have a few small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original 1940s suit in a small size and great cut. This could make a great addition to any WW2 or 1940s collection.
