Stunning Original 1940s British Chambray Shirt by 'Water Lane Brand'

SOLD

Code: 52165

A fantastic original men's chambray shirt made by 'Water Lane Brand' in the 1940s.

Water Lane Brand dates back to the Victorian era and was a prolific manufacturer of workwear in the first half of the 20th Century. Sometimes referred to as 'W.M Sudgen' who owned the brand and are still making shirts today, the Water Lane Brand was founded in 1924 and named after the street the first factory stood on in the late Victorian period.

The cut of this shirt is typical of those made and worn during the 1930s and 1940s. It is of half placket design which is pulled on over the head and is cut wide across the chest and shoulders to allow for this. This design was prevalent from the Victorian period through to the 1950s when full button front shirts started to gain popularity. The shirt also features a lovely spearpoint collar shape as was highly popular during this period. The shirt is made from a soft, sky blue coloured chambray fabric which really is stunning and very rare to find today. The buttons are sea foam green coloured corozo examples which are again lovely and compliment the shirt.

Inside the neck of the shirt the original label is still present. It bears the manufacturers initials 'W.L.B' to the top and the style name of 'Pembroke shirt' below in red. The size of 15" is also present and pertains to the collar size.

The shirt will suit around a 36-38" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 21 1/2"
Inside arm - 20"
Outside arm - 22 1/2"
Length at front - 31 1/2"
Length at back - 34"
Shoulers - 16 3/4"
Collar - 15"

The shirt is in excellent condition with next to no signs of previous wear or use. It is very wearable and displays well. Please study the pictures provided.

A stunning original 1940s British made shirt in a rare material and with a fantastic label. This would be hard to better!
