Original RAF MK VII Flying Goggles + Box

SOLD

Code: 52154

This particular pair are genuine RAF issue examples rather than post-war aftermarket goggles. The Air Ministry markings can be seen on the leather bridge section which confirms this. The goggles also have curved edges to the brass frames which is usually associated with war time manufactured goggles.

The goggles are a good pair and display well aside from the obvious age to the leatherwork. The brass frames are very good and retain the vast majority of their original blue painted finish. The chamois backing is also very good but the leather front of the frame cushions has suffered over the years with large areas of the chromed leather being absent. There is also some loss of stitching to the underside of the goggles as shown in the pictures.

The original strap is still present and retains its original leather pull tabs. The elastic is good with some signs of age and retains its original colour. The original owner has marked his name to the strap which reads 'P. D. M'.

The goggles come complete with their original box which have usually been lost over the years. The box is the specific issue type with 'Goggles MK. VIII' stamped to the top as well as the stores code 22c/920. This stores code is repeated on the side of the box and the Air Ministry AM marking with crown also features above this. The box is in reasonable condition for its age with only limited signs of wear and use.

Whilst not the finest goggles ever, these do still retain the all important Air Ministry markings. The condition has been reflected in the price and they would still make a good addition to any RAF or USAAF collection.
