Original Royal Navy Seaman's Jumper

SOLD

Code: 52096

An original Royal Navy Seaman's Jumper in good condition.

This pattern of jumper was used throughout the Second World War and into the Post-War period by all Class II Seaman with  No’s 1, 2, 3 and 4 dress. It was worn underneath the Jumper, Serge in the winter months in home waters. Whilst it is impossible to date exactly it came as part of a grouping all to one man with able seamans items dating from the Second World War which gives a good indication to its vintage.

The jumper is made from a tightly knitted navy blue wool in a traditional Guernsey style. It features tight cuffs and waistband and a square open neck. The neck opening is partially reinforced with cotton drill to the interior, aimed to give the garment more strength.

The original owner has added his name in white wool to the bottom of the jumper which reads 'A. Kettle'.

The jumper is a small size which will suit someone of around a 34-36" chest depending on desire fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 17 1/2"
Inside arm - 19 1/2"
Outside arm - 19"
Shoulders - 18"
Length - 29 1/2"

The jumper is in good condition for its age with only limited signs of wear and use. Overall it is very wearable but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.

A nice original WW2 period Royal Navy jumper in great condition!
