Original 1940s CC41 Men's Grey Flannel Collared Shirt

SOLD

Code: 52058

A scarce original 1940s men's collared shirt complete with its original CC41 label.

This shirt was made as part of the CC41 utility scheme which was brought into effect in the UK in 1941 as part of the larger rationing scheme. The idea behind it was that affordable, quality clothing would be available to everyone of every class and could be bought using coupons.

The shirt is typical of those made and worn during the 1940s. The shirt is made from a soft grey wool flannel and is of half placket design, which is pulled on over the head. The shirt features a nie spearpoint collar shape, typical of the era. Interestingly it has rubber buttons which suggest that this could have been initially intended for use in factories or other work environments. Two of the buttons have been replaced with period examples, most likely by the original owner.

The shirt is a smaller size and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 22 3/4"
Inside arm - 18 1/2""
Outside arm - 21 1/2"
Shoulders - 17"
Length at front - 31"
Length at back - 34"
Collar - 15"

It is important to remember that these shirts are cut very wide across the chest to allow them to be pulled on over the head so the true fit will be much smaller than the measurement provided.

The shirt is in excellent condition with only very limited signs of previous wear and age. Overall it displays extremely well but is of course a vintage item so may have small issues commensurate with this.

All in all a fantastic original 1940s work shirt with great details and the all important utility label. This would make a great addition to any collection or wardrobe without a doubt!
