Original 1944 Dated British Army Drill Battledress Blouse - Size 6

SOLD

Code: 52057

An original 1944 dated 'Overalls Blouse Drill No.4' in good condition.

This pattern of battledress jacket was introduced in 1944 and differs from the denim version being made from drill. To the untrained eye it looks the same as the denim version but is a different shade of green and of course doesn't have a selvedge. These blouses were only produced in the last two years of the war with the denim version being reinstated in the immediate post-war years.

The jacket features and array of revolving shank buttons of different colours and designs. They have all clearly been on the jacket for some time and whilst collectors prefer matched sets of buttons the guys that wore them originally were most likely not bothered about such things. The waist belt is fastened with a mid to late war pattern buckle which is marked 'Will not rust'.

Inside the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It states the size as No. 6 which is designed to fit someone of 5' 7" - 5' 8" tall with a 38"-40" chest and a 34"-35" waist, It is worth remembering that these are designed to be worn over a uniform so should be worn oversize for an authentic fit. The 1944 date can be found towards the bottom of the label as well as the War Department broad arrow marking. The manufacturer's name of 'Woolland Bros Ltd' is also present.

When laid flat the jacket measures -

Chest - 22"
Inside arm - 16"
Outside arm - 22"
Shoulders - 18"
Length - 21 1/2"

The jacket is in good condition with some signs of wear and use. There are no signs of undue wear and overall it is very wearable. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn vintage jacket which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A brilliant example of a piece of British military workwear with some interesting details and in nice condition. This would make a great addition to any collection without a doubt!
