Original WW2 ATS Officers Greatcoat

SOLD

Code: 52044

A rare original ATS officers greatcoat dating from the Second World War.

This pattern of greatcoat was worn throughout WW2 by Officers serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. It is closely modelled on the Men's version and even buttons the same way. It is made from a heavy, khaki green coloured serge wool and fastens with brass Kings crown buttons. The cuff features a large turnback and the collar can be fastened around the neck with two hook and eye fasteners. Two pips are fitted to each epaulettes denoting the rank of Lieutenant.

Inside the coat features a partial rayon lining and a single interior pocket. A metal hanging change is fitted at the neck and is marked 'Sword make'. The original owner has marked her name to the interior in ink which reads 'Barbara Reed'.

The coat is a smaller size and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 18"
Inside arm - 18"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 15 1/2"
Length - 42"

The coat is in good condition for its age and it displays well. It has suffered from a limited amount of moth damage as is shown in the pictures. Please study these before purchasing the coat and bear in mind that it does have some small flaws.

All in all a nice example of this hard to find piece of ladies military clothing!
