Rare Original WW2 S.R.N District Nurse's Ski Cap

£100.00 Approx $126.26, €116.96

Code: 52024

A rare original S.R.N District Nurses ski cap dating from the 1940s and in good condition.

This style of hat was used for a wide variety of women's services during the Second World including military, para-military and nursing organisations. It is made from a navy blue coloured barathea wool and features a stitched peak which is a common feature on ski hats from this period. The crown features a wire stiffener which stops short at the rear and only gives a stiff appearance to the front and sides of the hat. The interior of the cap is lined with a grey coloured rayon and features a drawstring design to tie the liner in more tightly.

To the front of the hat is an original bullion S.R.N cap badge which appears to have always been on the cap. It differs from many other women's ski caps of the period in that it does not feature a chin strap.

The lining features the words 'Nurses Outfitting Association, London and Provincial branches' in a typical period font. A size label is also present which is again typical of the period. It states the size as 6 5/8.

The cap is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures with only limited signs of wear, use and age. Overall it displays very well but is of course a vintage item so please study the pictures before purchasing.

A rare piece of WW2 Home Front headwear which would make an excellent addition to your collection!
