Original 1950s British PVC Oilskin Coat

SOLD

Code: 51918

An original British made oilskin PVC coat as used throughout the first half of the 20th century for a variety of working roles.

This style of coat was popular with fishermen and dockers amongst others who had to work outside in wet and windy conditions. The Royal Navy also has an issue version for many years.

This coat is typical of those made in the mid Century period. It is made from a black coloured PVC oilskin material which was ideally suited to wet conditions as it is highly waterproof. It features a short collar which is lined with a grey coloured wool, two patch pockets to the front and full button front fastening. Being a workwear piece of utilitarian design it features a straight sleeve with no cuff and no rear vents. Inside the coat the original label is present although it has been washed out leaving no legible details.

The coat is designed to be worn as an outer layer and is therefore cut in a generous, wide manner.  It will suit someone of around a 40" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 24 1/2"
Inside arm - 18"
Outside arm - 23 1/2"
Shoulders - 19 1/2"
Length - 46 1/2"

The coat is in good condition with some signs of wear and age. There is an L-shaped tear to the arm and another tear to one of the patch pockets although this is hidden by the pocket flap. There is also a button missing but all of these flaws are detailed in the pictures. Please take time to study them and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn work coat which may have other small issues commensurate with age.

A good original PVC oilskin!
