Original 1930s Blue Poplin Cotton Striped Collarless Shirt by 'Zodiac'

SOLD

Code: 51798

An original 1930s poplin cotton collarless shirt by 'Zodiac' in a blue pinstripe.

This shirt is typical of those made and worn during the 1930s and 1940s. It is made from a blue pinstripe poplin cotton with white and dark blue stripes. It is of half placket design which is pulled on over the head. This design was prevalent from the Victorian period through to the 1950s when full button front shirts started to gain popularity.

The collar is a neckband style made from the same material as the body of the shirt. It is designed to be worn with a detachable collar but can also be worn without one. Below this the original label is still present to the interior and features a label with typical 1930s graphics. It bears the brand name 'Zodiac, Roath Park Make' and a clover leaf design.

The shirt is a medium size and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 23 1/2"
Inside arm - 22 3/4"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 19"
Length at front - 33"
Length at back - 36"
Collar - 16"

It is important to remember that these shirts are cut very wide across the chest to allow them to be pulled on over the head so the true fit will be much smaller than the measurement provided. Also, the shirt has a french cuff which would usually be worn turned back so roughly 2" needs to be detracted from the sleeve measurement.

The shirt is in sound condition structurely but has a plethora of staining, most likely from storage. Please take time to study the pictures and access the condition for yourself.

An original pre-war period shirt with a great label. It would suit a variety of wartime uniforms including LDV, Home Guard and many more.
