Original 1930s GPO General Post Office Waistcoat

SOLD

Code: 51797

An original General Post Office black wool waistcoat dating from the 1930s.

This waistcoat formed part of the uniform worn by many people who worked for the Post Office during the inter-war years and 1940s. It is made from a black serge wool and features red piping to the top of all three welt pockets situated on the front of the garment. The interior is lined with cotton and the rear panel is black and features no cinchback, no doubt omitted in the name of austerity.

The front of the waistcoat fastens with black horn buttons which feature the GPO design surmounted by a Kings crown. The interior of the waistcoat features an orange stamp which is sadly no longer legible.

The waistcoat is a small size which will fit around a 36-37" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 18 3/4"
Length - 23"

The waistcoat is in good condition with only limited signs of wear and use. Overall it displays very well and is very wearable. It is a vintage, pre-worn item however so may have small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original inter-war period workwear waistcoat with some nice, subtle details.
