Original Early 1950s Men's Collarless Shirt by 'Wulcosa'

SOLD

Code: 51787

An original green and white striped collarless shirt made by 'Wulcosa' in the early 1950s.

This shirt is typical of those made and worn during the 1940s and 1950s. It is made from a heavy weight green and white striped cotton and is of half placket design which is pulled on over the head. This design was prevalent from the Victorian period through to the 1950s when full button front shirts started to gain popularity.

The collar is neckband style made from white cottonin contrast to the body of the shirt. It is designed to be worn with a detachable collar but can also be worn without one. Below this the original label is still present to the interior and features a typical graphic of the period. The makers name 'Wulcosa Regd' is present in green with a yellow outline.

The shirt is a medium size which will suit around a 38-40" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 23 1/2"
Inside arm - 21 1/4"
Outside arm - 23 3/4"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Length at front - 31"
Length at back - 34 3/4"
Collar - 15"

It is important to remember that these shirts are cut very wide across the chest to allow them to be pulled on over the head so the true fit will be much smaller than the measurement provided.

The shirt is in worn condition with various signs of wear and use. There is a period repair to the chest and wear to the collar as well as a small area of wear below the rear of the the collar. This is a vintage, pre-worn shirt so may have other small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original mid-century shirt, typical of those worn in Great Britain during the and 1940s and 1950s.
