Original Edwardian White Jacquard Summer Wasitcoat

SOLD

Code: 51779

An original Men's summer waistcoat dating from around the turn of the century and in good condition.

This style of waistcoat was popular in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods when contrasting waistcoats were in fashion. This example is a lightweight summer item which would have most likely been worn with cream flannel trousers and a boating jacket. It is made from a white cotton Jacquard which features a striped pattern and the front fastens with removeable mother of pearl style buttons which are held in place with brass split rings. The interior of the waistcoat is lined in white cotton as is the back. The rear features a cinchback belt and buckle arrangement with the buckle being removable, again for laundering purposes. It features a high buttoning closure which is typical of late Victorian and Edwardian waistcoats.

The waist coat will fit around a 38-39" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 19 1/2"
Length - 22"

The waistcoat is in good condition considering it is over 100 years old. There are some marks and some light staining as detailed in the pictures.

All in all a nice early 20th Century waistcoat which would make a great addition to any wardrobe or collection.
