Original 1950s Bukta 'Super Scrum' Rugby Shirt

SOLD

Code: 51712

A fantastic original British Rugby Shirt made by 'Bukta' during the 1950s.

This early rugby shirt is a design classic with the style remaining very similar to modern rugby shirts. It is made from a white cotton jersey material and features a blue-red-blue stripe to breast and arms. The collar and neckband are made from white cotton drill and the fly is made from a white cotton tape which is typical of sports shirts from this period. The rear features a white cotton panel with a large number 7 on it in red.

Inside the shirt the original label is still present and states the manufacturer as 'Bukta' who were a prolific manufacturer of sportswear in the UK in the mid-century period. The shirt style is 'Super Scrum' and the words 'Made in England' are also present to the label. Another small label can be found just above this which states the size as 40. Whilst I would expect the shirt to fit the stated size please check the measurements below -

Chest - 20 1/2"
Inside arm - 21 3/4"
Outside arm - 21"
Shoulders - 22"
Length - 30 1/2"

The shirt is in good condition and displays well. It is still very wearable but has some signs of wear and use. Please study the pictures provided.

All in all a very nice example of a British Sports shirt, the like of which is becoming hard to find today. This shirt has  a great label and some lovely period details. It would undoubtedly make a great addition to any collection or wardrobe!
