Original 1943 Dated British Army Service Dress Tunic

SOLD

Code: 51660

An original 1942 Dated British Army Service Dress Tunic, often referred to as '1922 Pattern' by collectors.

This particular tunic is the wartime austerity pattern which features plain patch pockets on the chest rather than the pre and post war patterns which have pleats. As well as this it does not feature buttons the lower pockets. Aside from those details the tunic is more-or-less unchanged from the earlier pattern.

The tunic features a full set of brass Kings crown brass buttons and brass belt hangers in the waist. The linings the standard khaki drill type used in these tunics during WW2.

Inside the tunic still retains its original label which is still bright and legible including the makers name 'J. Compton Sons & Webb'. It states the size as No.11 which will fit a 38-39" chest and a 33-34" waist. The War Department broad arrow marking is present to the lower portion of the label and a purple issue stamp which states that this tunic was issued in July 1943. As well as the label the War Department broad arrow marking is present and surmounted by the letter 'N' which confirms 1943 as the year of issue.

The overall condition of the jacket is very good with next to no signs of wear or use, save for the stain to the pocket bag lining which is only seen when the jacket is open. It displays very well and generally speaking appears to be very fresh still. Please study the pictures as these form part of the description.

All in all a very nice war dated example of the economy pattern tunic. This would me a good addition to any collection.
