Original 1940s CC41 Workwear Waistcoat

SOLD

Code: 51599

A rare original 1940s workwear waistcoat complete with the CC41 utility stamp.

Clearly this item was designed as a utilitarian workwear piece. The materials used are heavy and hard wearing and the design is simple and austere. The front of the waistcoat features a coarse, thick, grey coloured wool and only three pockets instead of the more traditional four. The rear of the waistcoat is made from a navy blue sanforized cotton which again has been chosen for its hard wearing qualities. A cinch belt is placed on the rear and is made from the same cotton drill as the back panel and features a simple steel roll buckle. The interior of the waistcoat is lined with a cream coloured cotton canvas making for a warm garment.

The interior bears an ink stamp of the CC41 utility logo. The use of a stamp rather than a label as is usually seen would point to this being made towards the beginning of the utility clothing scheme and therefore wartime. It could also be because this was intended as a work item and a label would be liable to rip out with excessive wear and washing.

The waistcoat is a smaller size which will fit around a 38" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 19"
Length - 22 1/2"

The waistcoat is in worn condition as can be seen in the pictures. It is still very wearable but has plenty of signs of age and use which are to be expected of a vintage work piece of this age. Please study the pictures provided for the best idea of condition.

Vintage British made workwear from this period is rare to find today making this a collectable in its own right. The CC41 logo only helps to add to this and means it would undoubtedly make a great addition to any collection.
