A beautiful original USAAF 'Crusher' cap in fantastic condition and a large size!
This cap is a true 'crusher' as the peak is flexible and can be folded together. These caps are the most sort after style of American Officers cap today. This is not a standard service cap which has had the wire stiffener removed etc, but a hat made in the crusher style.
The main body of the hat is made from a Chocolate coloured gabardine referred to as OD51 and is in excellent condition with no signs of mothing. The interior is also very clean and is lined with a gold rayon. The leather sweatband is completely intact and not coming away at any point. The original size tag is still present on the sweatband stating the size as 7 1/8, which equates to 7 1/4 in English size.
Inside the cap is also a line of stitching running around the circumference of the hat which would have had something attached. Sadly there is no label present in the cap as it would have been attached to this.
The cap badge and buttons are also original, as is the chinstrap. All are in excellent condition. The peak is also good but does have some crazing. This is the only real floor I can find on the cap however.
Overall, a fantastic original cap which would truly be hard to better. These big size caps rarely come up in such good condition!
