Original WW2 US Army Officers Private Purchase Ike Jacket

SOLD

Code: 11477

An original privately purchased US Army Officers Ike Jacket dating from the Second World War.

This short, cut down style tunic became very popular with US Army and US Army Air Force officers during the Second World War. This particular example is interesting as it has been tailor made from scratch as opposed to being a cut down four pocket tunic. Due to this it also features and number of things in common with the standard issue Ike jacket, making it an even more interesting piece.

The jacket is made from the standard shade of OD usually used for this type of tunic. It is fully lined and features to pleated patch pockets and waist adjusters, the same as those used on issue Ike Jackets of the Second World War. The cuff also mimics the standard Ike Jacket in design which is yet another interesting feature.

The front of the jacket fastens with brown buttons which are hidden by a fly front, through which none-functioning US Army buttons are held on with brass split rings. The pockets are also fastened in the same way.

There is evidence of where a tailors label has previously been attached to the inside of the jacket, positioned below the neck line. This would suggest European manufacture - most likely English.

The jacket is a generous size which measures 23 1/2" pit to pit and and 20 1/2" in the waist meaning it should be a good fit for someone of around a 42" chest, depending on desired fit.

The jacket is in excellent condition as can be seen in the pictures. It has clearly only seen limited use with no signs of serious wear or age. There is some marks to the lining which can be seen in the pictures but aside from this the jacket displays extremely well.

Altogether a very nice example of a private purchase US Army Officers jacket in a hard to find larger size.
