Original 1944 Dated US Army Officers Raincoat - Size 40S

SOLD

Code: 51376

An original 'Overcoats, Field, Officers, O.D. No. 7' dated January 12th 1944 and complete with its matching blanket liner.

This coat is offered to the market for the first time since being bought in an estate sale some 25+ years ago. It belonged to a captain who served with the 8th Air Force in England before transferring to the 35th Infantry Division.

This pattern of coat was popular in the Second World War with officers of the USAAF and the US Army. The design is very similar to macintoshes of the period sold to civilians with a double breasted button front, waist belt and epaulettes. The exterior is made from a waterproof gaberdine and the front fastens with standard US Army buttons.

The coat features a removable lining. making it ideally suited to longer period in adverse weather conditions. It is labelled as the same size as the coat (40S) and is undoubtedly original to the coat.

The best features on the coat are the storm flap to the right shoulder and the fold up neck flap which buttons onto the collar as illustrated in the pictures.

The original label is present inside the coat and is still bright and legible. The size tags are present to both the lining and the coat and state the size as 40S. Due to its loose cut design, it is possible the coat will fit slightly larger.

The coat is in great condition as can be seen in the pictures. It has some signs of wear and use, particularly around the collar; but nothing more than would be usually found on a worn vintage item. All the original buttons are present safe for one of the buttons under the collar which fastens the neck flap. The coat is still very wearable and displays nicely.

A very nice original WW2 coat which is clearly dated and very complete.
