1944 Dated RAF Ordinary Airman’s Tunic.

SOLD

Code: 50574

An original RAF Ordinary Airman's tunic dated 1944 and with all it's original insignia and some history.

This tunic belonged to 1029310 Cpl Bamford who served with 683 who formed in 1943 at RAF Luqa on Malta, as a photo-reconnaissance squadron operating the Spitfire fighter in the photo-reconnaissance role before moving into Sicily and Italy.

The tunic is typical of wartime made tunics and is complete with its original insignia which includes printed albatross badges to teh top of each sleeve, a printed wireless operator badge to the right sleeve and a nice pair of corporal stripes. This along with the campaign ribbons attached above the left breast pocket tie together nicely with all the original paperwork which came with this set and is listed below.

Inside the jacket the original label is still present and states the jackets size as No.6 which will fit up to a 39" chest and a 35" waist. The label also bares the War Department broad arrow, makers name and the 1944 dated.

Also inside the jacket is the War Department ink stamp which is surmounted by the letter Z denoting 1945 as the year of issue.

The jacket also comes complete with its original waist belt and brass buckle both of which are in good condition and are a good match to the tunic.

The condition of the tunic is very good with no damage or mothing that I can see. It has been worn but it has been well looked after and displays well today. It isn't a heavily worn and washed out example but still retains a nice deep blue colour as it would have done at the time.

altogether a very nice tunic with original badges, a nice date and some interesting history. It would certainly compliment and wartime RAF collection!
