1946 Dated RAF War Service Dress Blouse

SOLD

Code: 50686

A good example of an RAF War Service Dress blouse which has been tailored by an Officer, clearly dated 1946.

The original collar on this jacket has been re-modelled by a tailor during the Second World War to a notched lapel as seen on the RAF Officers Service Dress tunic. This was a popular modification during 1944/45 particularly with Canadian pilots, including many members of Jonny Johnson's wing, who can be seen wearing this style in pictures. I have attached a picture of Jonny Johnson himself wearing a blouse that has been tailored in exactly the same way as this example, as well as another pilot, Dal Russel of 442 Squadron, who again is wearing this tailored version of jacket.

The label inside the jacket is very bright and clear stating size No.12 as the size and a the date, 1946. Whilst post-war Dated this could still be used in place of a wartime example with a doubt. Size 12 will fit up to 41” chest and a 36” waist so it’s a very good size for the modern reenactor.

The jacket itself is in good condition showing only limited signs of service wear. There is a small amount of fading to the collar lining as is common and a small degree of staining around the edge of the collar. The hanger in the back is also broken.

This original tunic would be ideal for someone interested in the 2nd Tactical Air force or Canadian Pilots during the Second World War.
