Original 1942 Dated Royal Canadian Air Force Khaki Drill Tunic - Size 9

SOLD

Code: 51176

An original Royal Canadian Air Force 'Frocks, Khaki Drill, Airmen' dated 1942 and in a good wearable size No.9.

This pattern of tunic was worn by both the RAF and the RCAF throughout the Second World War in tropical climates. This tunic is clearly a Canadian made example as the cotton drill cloth has a slightly greenish hue to it than British or Indian made examples. It comes complete with a full set of brass Kings crown RCAF buttons which are all held on with the correct metal split rings usually employed on KD items.

The tunic comes complete with its original waist belt and brass buckle which is fastened to the tunic with a single stamped brass button - typical of early war manufacture.

Inside the tunic the original makers label is still present and states the size as No9 which will fit up to a 40" chest and a 35" waist. The manufacturers name is present as is the 1942 date.

As well as retaining its original label, the tunic features its original War Department broad arrow marking which is surmounted by the letter 'O' which denotes 1942 as the year of issue.

The original owner has added their service number in ink to the interior which may be traceable.

The tunic is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. It displays well with no serious signs of wear or damage that I can see. There are some marks to the right sleeve and another to the belt which can be seen in the pictures.

All in all a great original wartime tunic with a nice clear date and in a harder to find, wearable size. This would suit a re-enactor or make a great addition to a collection!
