Original 1945 Dated RAF War Service Dress Blouse - Size 11

SOLD

Code: 51260

An original Royal Air Force War Service Dress Blouse dated 1945 and in a good wearable size 11.

This pattern of jacket came into service in late 1940 listed as 'Suits, Aircrew' before being re-designated 'War Service Dress' in 1943, remaining virtually unchanged. The blouse features the wire style waist buckle usually associated with early manufacture 'Suits, Aircrew' blouses, RAF style scalloped pocket flaps and a pair of hook and eyes to close the neck. Interestingly, the blouse is fitted with butterscotch coloured horn buttons in place of the usual black type. Whether this is a manufactures quirk or they have been changed I do not know.

The original manufacturers label is still present inside the jacket and is bright and legible. It states the jacket as being a size 11 which will fit a 38-39" chest and a 34" waist. The manufacturers name is 'The West Auckland Clothing Co Ltd' and the 1945 date is below this. There is also a purple issue stamp added later which reads '9 Jan 1946. The War Department broad arrow marking is also present to the bottom of the label.

The blouse is in reasonable condition for its age with various signs of use and age. It appears to have previously been fitted with Warrant Officer rank insignia, Nationality shoulder titles and an aircrew wing, possibly a pilots wing. There is a number stamped inside the waistband which may make the jacket traceable. Whilst overall the jacket displays well there are a coupe of holes to the left breast pocket and a few more smaller ones dotted around. One of collar eyelets is also missing but this could be replaced. The price reflects the condition.

All in all a reasonable example of a WSD Blouse in a good wearable size which could suit a re-enactor.
