Original WW2 RAF Officers Service Dress Jacket with Air Gunner Brevet

SOLD

Code: 51295

An original Royal Air Force Officers Service Dress Jacket dating from the Second World War and sporting an Air Gunner Brevet.

This pattern of tunic came into issue with the RAF in the inter-war years and saw service throughout WW2. It was replaced in the immediate post-war years with the three button design which means this is more than likely a wartime example.

The jacket features a padded Air Gunner brevet to the chest and two rings of rank braid to each sleeve denoting the original owners rank was Flight Lieutenant. Brass Volunteer Reserve badges are fitted to the collar, typical of airmen who served in the early part of the Second World War. The interior of the coat usefully lined and features two pockets as well as a first field dressing pocket.

The tunic is a small size which will someone of around a 34" chest. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 18"
Waist - 15"
Inside arm - 17"
Outside arm - 23"
Shoulders - 16 1/2"

The tunic is in nice condition and display well. Overall it is a sound example but it does have a couple of nicks around the right hand lower bellows pocket and a small repair to the righthand upper sleeve. The lining also features some soiling, especially around the neck. All these issues are detailed in the pictures so please take the time to study them.

A very nice original tunic which would make a great addition to any collection!
