Original 1945 Dated RAF War Service Dress Blouse - Size 5

SOLD

Code: 51371

An original 1945 Dated Royal Air Force War Service Dress Blouse in fine condition and in a size No.5.

This pattern of jacket came into service in late 1940 listed as 'Suits, Aircrew' before being re-designated 'War Service Dress' in 1943, remaining virtually unchanged. The blouse features the wire style waist buckle usually associated with early manufacture 'Suits, Aircrew' blouses, RAF style scalloped pocket flaps and a pair of hook and eyes to close the neck. Standard RAF Black horn buttons are fitted to the jacket.

The jacket comes complete with a set of wartime economy printed eagle badges fitted to the top of each sleeve. They have been added with a machine rather than hand sewn.

Inside the jacket the original label is present and is still bright and legible. Its states the size of the jacket as 5 which will fit someone of around a 36" chest and a 32" waist. The manufacturers name is 'J. Compton, Sons & Webb, Ltd' below which is the 1945 date and the War Department broad arrow marking.

As well as this the War Department acceptance stamp is also present and is surmounted by the letter 'L'. Next to this is another ink stamp of the number 5 which relates to size.

The jacket is in excellent condition as can be seen in the pictures. It does not actually look as if it has been issued or worn and is still the deep blue colour it would have been when new. It is a vintage jacket that is 75 years old however so may have very small issues consummate with age.

A very fine example of a wartime RAF WSD Blouse which displays exceptionally well. This would make a fine addition to any RAF collection.
