1942 Dated Royal Signals Captains Battledress Blouse

SOLD

Code: 10937

A lovely example of an early manufacture 1940 (Austerity) pattern battledress blouse with original early-mid war insignia.

This blouse features three oversize Royal Signals officers pips on each shoulder denoting Captain as well as an original Arm Of Service strip to each arm which is made from two pieces of felt - a common practice. This style of battledress badging was very common during 1941-42 before shoulder titles and divisional flashes became de rigueur. The only other evidence of insignia on the jacket is two holes above the left-hand breast pocket where some sort of medal ribbon was at some point attached.

The blouse has a beautiful label inside and bares one of the less common makers - M Craps & Sons Ltd. and is clearly dated 1942. The sizes state -

Height - 5'7" - 5'8"
Chest - 35-36"
Waist - 30-31"

The battledress is in great condition for its age and the nap of the wool is beautiful. The only small faults are a small rip to the lining of the collar, a tear to the lining in one of the cuffs and a small amount of corrosion to the metal collar fasteners.

All in all, a very honest, original wartime Battledress jacket with nice original badges and an uncommon maker.
