Original 1943 Dated 1940 Pattern (Austerity) Battledress Trousers - Size No.4

SOLD

Code: 50299

A very nice original pair of British Army 1940 Pattern (Austerity) Battledress trousers still with their original label.

This pattern of battledress came into use with the British Army during 1942 and saw use with all arms of service until the end of hostilities.

This particular pair feature dark brown buttons which are usually associated with early manufactured items. The label has no date on it sadly but the WD stamp inside appears to be surmounted by the code letter 'N' which denotes 1943. The ink is slightly smudged however.

The label states the trousers as a size No.4 which sounds quite small but will fit up to a 31" waist and a 30" inside leg. The label is still clear and readable which really adds to these trousers. So often the labels are washed out or have been removed.

The overall condition of the trousers is excellent as can be seen in the photographs. The serge is beautiful and consistent throughout the trousers, retaining a fair amount of its nap. The lining is very clean and all the buttons are present and intact. The only one flaw with the trousers is some wear to the bottom of each leg which has resulted in some fraying. This could be repaired or even turned up to make them a near perfect set of Battledress trousers.

Overall, a fantastic early set of Battledress trousers which still retain their original label and early brown buttons. This would compliment any collection without a doubt!
