Original WW2 Era Khaki Drill Shorts - Made in Sri Lanka

SOLD

Code: 50681

An original pair of c.1940s khaki drill shorts by 'S.M.A Tailor and Contractor' of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.

The British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force were al stationed around Trincomalee prior to the Second World War as well as throughout it. After the fall of Singapore in 1942 Trincomlee became the home fleet for the Eastern Fleet of the Royal Navy. It is my belief that these shorts date from around this period.

The construction of the shorts is typical of the period. They are made from a khaki colour cotton drill and feature a button fly, two slash pockets to each hip and a single rear pocket. What set these shorts aside from others however is the metal plated buckle use to fasten the front of the shorts. I have not yet come across these design but it is very off the period. The buckle is removable for washing, as is usual with KD items such as this.

The original label is still present in the shorts and is bright and clearly legible. The graphics are typical of those seen in the 1930s and 1940s.

The shorts measure at a 30" waist.

The condition of the shorts is good with only limited signs of wear. They have survived very well for thier age.

Overall, a nice pair of original KD shorts with an interesting maker and belt detail that sets the aside from others offered on the market.
