Orignal British Army 1940 Pattern Battledress Blouse

SOLD

Code: 50749

An original British Army 1940 Pattern Battledress Blouse, often referred to as 1937 pattern by collectors.

This pattern of BD jacket is the second pattern and came into issue with the British Army in the summer of 1940. It features a lined collar and the early wire style buckle so I would date this example to late 1940 - early 1941.

Inside the jacket the remenants of the original label can still be seen but it has sadly been removed. This was a common thing for soldiers to do at the time. A War Department crows foot stamp is present in the lining but no letter code to denote the year of issue.

When laid flat the jacket measures at slightly of 21” pit to pit a 16 1/2” at the waist. Based on this I would recommend a fit of a 38-40” chest and a 31-32” waist.

The condition of this early war jacket is very good and it displays nicely. Whilst it has clearly been issued and worn, it has undoubtedly been well looked after. The nap of the serge is still fluffy the lining only shows limited signs of service use. There is one small moth hole to the front of the jacket which I have included a photograph of.

All in all a nice early war British Army jacket in nice condition which displays very well. Ideal for the collector and reenactor alike!
