Original WW2 1940 Pattern Battledress Blouse

SOLD

Code: 50984

An original British Army battledress blouse dating from 1941 in well worn condition.

This pattern of battledress blouse came into issue with the British Army in late 1940 and was used throughout the rest of the Second World War. This particular jacket features two inside pockets meaning it is an earlier example as economy measures limited inside pockets to a single pocket sometime in 1941. This means it has to date from late 1940 or 1941.

There are no labels or markings that I can find to the interior of the jacket but it does feature the early wire belt buckle to the waist and standard revolving shank buttons to fix the epaulettes to the jacket.

When laid flat the jacket measures -

Chest - 21 1/4"
Waist - 16 1/2"
Inside arm - 17"
Outside arm -22 1/2"
Shoulders - 16 3/4"
Length - 22 1/2"

The condition of the jacket is not the best. It appears to have gone through one of the army repair shops as the breast pockets have been replaced with slightly mismatched new pockets and there are a number of period repairs. This all adds to the character of the jacket and is typical of what an early blouse such as this could have looked like in 1944-45. I have included photographs which detail the various effected areas so please study them.

Altogether a reasonable battledress blouse representative of what a wartime worn jacket would really look like. Whilst not the finest condition this has been reflected in the price and it would still make a nice addition to a collection.
