Original 1945 Denim Battledress Blouse

SOLD

Code: 51096

A scarce original war dated example of a British Army Denim Battledress Blouse in good used condition.

Introduced at the beginning of the Second World War as a replacement for the earlier fatigues issued in the Great War and inter-war periods., the design closely followed the serge Battledress introduced in 1940 but was made from denim and had removable buttons. This is a second pattern or 'austerity' version which does not feature the pleated pockets of the first pattern jacket.

The jacket is made from a khaki green denim which is noticeably different in shade to the more common post-war version. It comes complete with a full set of original buttons and chromium plated waist buckle.

Inside the jacket still retains its original issue label which is bright and legible. This is uncommon to find with original denim items as they are usually washed out. The label states 'Overalls, Blouses Denim' and the size as No.4 which will fit someone with a chest between 37-39", 33-34" waist and around 5'5"-5'10" tall. The 1945 date is also present on the label as is the War Department broad arrow marking.

The jacket is in good condition and displays very well. It has clearly been used and washed so has a good authentic look to it. There is a period repair to the rear which has been done using a matching piece of denim material, a couple of other small holes and an ink stain to one of the breast pockets. Please study the pictures as they form part of the description.

A hard to find war dated example in good usable condition. This would make a great addition to any collection without a doubt!
