Original WW2 Indian Made British Army Wool Jungle Shirt

SOLD

Code: 51351

A scarce original Indian made wool shirt as used by the British Army in the Far East during the Second World War.

The shirt is made from a coarse grey-green flannel and features a half front closure, stand and fall collar, pleated chest pockets and Indian stamped metal dish buttons. It also features tabs on the shoulders which could be used for fitting epaulettes.

The shirt is cut very short in the body and was designed to be worn tucked in. This is most likely due to it being a hot weather issue item which therefore didn't need the long tails usually found during this period which helped the wearer keep warm. It is a small size and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 22"
Inside arm - 18 3/4"
Outside arm - 21 1/4"
Shoulders - 17 1/4"
Length - 27"

The shirt is in good condition with only limited signs of wear and age. There is some staining around the collar which can be seen in the pictures. The cuff buttons are missing as is the utmost front button but this doesn't overly detract from its appearance.

A very rare wartime shirt which would make a great addition to any collection!
