Original British Khaki Drill Service Dress Trousers

SOLD

Code: 10639

An original pair of British Army Khaki Drill Service Dress Trousers dating from the later part of the Great War to the inter-war period.

This pattern of trousers closely follows the standard serge Service Dress Trousers which were used throughout 1920s and 1930s and well into the Second World War. The feature a narrow leg, high rise waist with fishtail back and slash pockets to each side seam which are all features of their serge counterparts. They differ however in that they have had a rear cinch-back removed at some stage which would suggest that these are earlier and possibly of Royal Marines origin.

The trousers are fitted with stamped brass buttons as are usually found on this period of British Army Ordinary Ranks clothing. A number of period replacement buttons have been fitted which is quite common to find on original period worn items. They include examples from 'Lewis's' and 'W. H. Bell, Douglas' and help to give the trousers an extra piece of history.

The trousers will fit around a 30" waist and a 33" inside leg but the leg has been let all the way out (as shown in the pictures) meaning that they could be shortened back to original. When laid flat they measure -

Waist - 15 1/2"
Inside leg - 33"
Rise - 14 1/2"
Cuff - 8"

The trousers are in good condition for their age with some signs of wear and use. There is some staining to the seat as is usual with KD trousers and shorts and there are some marks to the lower leg. There is also a small tear to the left pocket bag but this could easily be repaired and there is a fade mark across the back of the leg. Overall they display well and are still very wearable but please bear in mind that these are a pre-worn vintage item and may have other small issues commensurate with their age.

Altogether these are a great pair of early KD trousers with some great details.
