Original 1940s RAF Officers Khaki Drill Tunic

SOLD

Code: 51482

A nice original Second World War Period Royal Air Force Officers privately tailored tunic in good condition.

This tunic appears to be a well tailored theatre made example, typical of those bought by RAF officers whilst stationed in the Middle East and Far East. It features black plastic RAF Kings crown buttons and a matching black plastic waist buckle. Four buttons fasten the front and the collar is designed to be worn open as shown in the pictures with no top button or button hole fitted. There are some cotton loops to the chest above the left breast pocket which were most likely used to support an aircrew brevet, medal ribbons or both.

Due to the fact that this is a private purchase example there are no labels or other markings making it impossible to date exactly. It is however typical of those seen during the Second World War and most likely does date from this period.

The tunic is a medium size which will fit a 38-40" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 22 1/4"
Waist - 15 3/4"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Length 29"

The tunic is in very good condition for its age with only limited signs of wear and use. Overall it presents very well and is very wearable. It does however have a hole underneath the belt to the rear of the tunic as shown in the pictures. This is a common place for tunics to wear but luckily does not show when worn or displayed.

All in all a very nice private purchase tunic dating from the 1940s and with some great details.
