1945 Dated British Army GS Beret Size 7 3/8

SOLD

Code: 50134

A good example of the British Army General Service beret dated 1945 and in a large size 7 3/8.

The beret is maker marked inside 'J Compton and Sons' who are one of the more prolific makers of headwear during the Second World War. This is hard to see in the photographs as it is somewhat worn, but more apparent in the flesh.

The beret also retains its WD mark and broad arrow which is surmounted with the letter Z which denotes 1945 as the year of manufacture.

The Beret is also marked with the size which is the case is 7 3/8 - a very generous size.

The lining is in good condition showing only slight signs o wear. The serge is also good although there are a few moth nips as can be seen in the photographs. These have been taken into account when the item was priced. There are also two holes where a cap badge has been mounted on it at some point in its life.

Overall a great example of a wartime beret in a hard to find larger size!
