1940 Dated MKII Number 2D Steel Helmet

SOLD

Code: 50469

An original 1940 dated British Steel Helmet MKII Number 2D fitted with a 1940 dated size 7 liner made by C.C.L.

This helmet is a MKII Number 2D which is denoted by the four holes drilled in the side and means that it was not to be used by frontline troops. They did however see use with Home Guard, RAF and predominantly the Civil Defence.

The helmet shell is clearly dated 1940 on one of the chin strap lugs and the liner also bares the same date as well as the makers mark 'CCL' and the size, 7.

The helmet shell has the Numerals '2-3' painted onto it as well as the original owners name 'W.N. Brown' which are both nice personally added details which give the helmet a particular charm.

The helmet comes complete with an original chin strap which looks to be original to the helmet. The liner is also secured with the correct and original nut and bolt.

The overall condition of the helmet is good and it displays well. The liner is in good condition for its age and still retains the original tightening cord. The shell has had heavy use though and as a result is missing a lot of its original paint finish. This arguably adds to the character of the helmet.

Overall, a nice original MKII Number 2D which displays well and would suit a number of different displays or collections.
