Original c.1920s British Army Officers No.1 Breeches by 'Bartels & Co'

SOLD

Code: 51090

An original pair of men’s military No.1 Dress breeches dating from approximately the 1920s.

This pattern of breeches was worn with the No.1 tunic for many years. Cut from the same very dark navy blue material as the tunic the breeches feature dark brown suede patches to the inner leg and a button opening to the bottom. The waistband has a small ticket pocket as is standard with this pattern and the fly fastens with buttons, all of which are marked 'Bartels & Co, London & Sandhurst'.

The materials used to make the breeches are typical of the Edwardian period through to the 1920s. It is possible that these are indeed of Great War vintage, however the style and making did not change in the 1920s.

The breeches are cut with a voluminous 'Elephant ear' shape to the leg and feature a very high rise, typical of the era. ~

When laid flat the breeches measure -

Waist - 19 1/2"
Inside leg - 26"
Rise - 16 3/4"
Rear rise - 22"
Calf (narrowest point) - 7"

The condition of the garment is very good and they display well. There are a couple of small nicks to the fabric but these are only noticeable on very close inspection. Overall the breeches display very well.

A nice pair of early breeches that would make a good addition to any collection .
