Original 1940s Men's Overcoat by 'A Carlington Coat'

SOLD

Code: 10397

A fantastic original Men's double breasted overcoat dating from around the early 1940s and labeled 'A Carlington Coat'.

This overcoat is typical of those worn by men in the 1930s and 1940s. Made from a heavyweight herringbone wool the coat features the two front patch pockets and and waist belt which is ubiquitous with this style. The waist belt still retains its original plastic buckle which is in excellent condition.

It is lined with a brown coloured rayon which is again typical of the era and retains its original maker label which is found below the interior pocket. The label features a black duel with the name and image of a horseman is embroidered in silver. It harks back to labels of the Edwardian period meaning it would have been quite viewed as relatively traditional when it was made in the late 1930s or early 1940s.

The coat is will fit someone of around a 38-40" chest depending on desired fit. These coats come up very large when measured flat due to the cut. They are cut to fit over a suit and to be loose and roomy so bear this in mind when studying the measurements. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 23 1/2"
Inside arm - 16 1/4"
Outside arm - 25"
Shoulders - 19 1/4"
Length - 47"

The coat is in very nice condition and displays very well. It has been worn and shows some signs of age and wear. The lining has some spotting to it and sweat marks, mainly around the top as detailed in the pictures. There are a few small flaws to the exterior which again are detailed and included a small area to the front of the skirt and two small holes to the right sleeve. Please study the pictures and bare in mind that this is a pre-worn vintage coat of approximately 80 years old and may have other small issues consummate with this.

Altogether this is a very attractive overcoat with all the classic details of the 1930s and 1940s. The original label is still present and it is still a very wearable coat today.
