Original 1950s RAF MK2 Flying Suit with Engineer Brevet

SOLD

Code: 10323

An original RAF MK2 Flying Suit dating from the late 1950s complete with Engineers Brevet.

This original flying suit was officially designated 'Suits Flying MK2 and 2a' as stated on the interior label. The smaller label usually found above this has been removed for some reason. The suit is fitted with a period Engineers brevet and bears the name 'F/L Wickson' in ink to the interior. I have found a Wickson in the 1960 London Gazette who is described as 'Master Engineer' and could certainly be the original owner of the suit. Flight Lieutenant rank insignia is fitted to the epaulettes.

The suit features a waist belt and metal buckle as seen on this period of flight suits. A blue painted 'Aero' brand zip fastens the front of the suit whilst 'Swift' brand zippers are fitted to the pockets, all of which are typical of the period. A number of button pockets are found towards the bottom of the suit whilst the left sleeve features a pen pocket.

The overall condition of the suit is good and it displays well. It has marks and wear which are to be expected from an issued item that has been used for flying. These are detailed in the photographs so please take the time to study them.

Altogether a nice example of a jet-age flying suit with scope for further research. This would make an excellent addition to any RAF collection!
