Original 1954 Dated British Army Denim Battledress Trousers

SOLD

Code: 10229

An original pair of 'Overalls Denim Trousers' clearly dated 1954 and in good condition.

This pattern of trousers came into issue with the British Army during the Second World War and remained standard issue well into the 1950s. These trousers were used for fatigues and are made from a green denim sanforised cotton, typical of that used for workwear in the mid century period. Based on the serge battledress design, these trousers feature a map pocket to the left leg, a first field dressing pocket to the right hip and slash pockets in the usual place in each side seam. They are cut with a high rise and wide leg as were all men's clothes during this period.

This particular pair retain their original issue label which is often missing or washed out on example found today. It states the size as No.11, the manufacturer as 'Manclark & Son Ltd' and bears the 1954 date. The War Department broad arrow is also present to the bottom of the label as is usual.

Whilst the label states the waist as being 34-36", the trousers have been altered and will suit someone of around a 30-32" waist depending on desired fit. These overalls are designed to be worn over a uniform so should be worn oversize for an authentic look. When laid flat they measure -

Waist - 16 1/4"
Inside leg - 30 1/2"
Rise - 15 1/4"
Rear rise - 17 1/2"
Cuff - 9 1/4"

The trousers are in good condition but have plenty of signs of wear, as is to be expected of a vintage work piece. They bear various stains which add to their character and the only real flaw that I can find is a 2" long hole to the seat seam which needs taking back together. Please study the pictures and remember that these are a pair of vintage pre-worn work trousers and may have small issues consummate with age.

Altogether a nice pair of original 1950s British military fatigues in good wearable condition.
