A rare original Women's Royal Naval Service Greatcoat dating from 1945 and in good condition.
This pattern of greatcoat was worn throughout the Second World War by women serving with the Wrens. It is made from a black coloured heavy serge blanket wool, as was usually used for greatcoats during this period. It features a double breasted front which fastens with black plastic Royal Navy Buttons. Pockets are located to each hip and a half belt can be found to the rear which twined with the cut make for a classic 1940s overcoat.
Inside the coat two labels can be found. To the neck is the makers label which features the makers name of 'Beau Brummel Clothing Regd' and is typical 1940s in its design. The issue label can be found attached to the interior of the skirt and bears the title 'W.R.N.S Greatcoat' and the size of 5. The 1945 date can just be seen to the bottom of the label.
When laid flat the coat measures -
Chest - 19 1/2"
Inside arm - 17 1/2"
Outside arm - 25"
Shoulders - 16"
Length - 42 1/2"
The coat is in good condition overall with no signs of serious damage. The coat has seen plenty of use meaning the nap of the wool has been worn down in the usual places such as the top of the pockets and other edges but the coat is very wearable none-the-less. There are two very small repairs to the rear left shoulder although these are only noticeable on close inspection. Please study the pictures provided and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn, vintage coat.
A rare piece of WW2 women's uniform with great labels and in wearable condition. A must have for the serious collector!
