A rare original first pattern First Aid Nursing Yeomanry Peaked cap dating from the early part of the Second World War.

This cap is instantly recognisable as a first pattern example as it has a stitched peak rather than the stiff peak introduced in 1942. There is a single metal grommet to the right hand side of the cap and the chin strap is leather and worn over the top of the crown, as was usual with FANY headwear. The strap is held in place with FANY pattern buttons as illustrated in picture 7. The front of the cap is fitted with an original FANY cap badge which is maker marked 'Gaunt' to the reverse.

The interior of the cap does not bear and labels or markings but the original owner has marked their initials as E.J.K.W. The internal construction is the same as issue ATS caps from this period and is lined with rayon. There is a small section of material stitched in to cover the blades of the cap badge inside the cap which is clearly a period modification.

The cap is a size 6 7/8.

The condition of the hat is very good overall and it displays nicely. The serge still has plenty of its 'nap' and the interior only shows limited signs of wear. There is some soiling to the interior from wear which is to be expected. Please study the pictures and remember that this is a pre-owned item which is over 80 years old and therefore may have small flaws commensurate with age.

Original First Aid Nursing Yeomanry uniform items are very rare to find today, especially in such good condition as this!
