Original WW2 WAAF Private Purchase Tropical Sun Hat

Original WW2 WAAF Private Purchase Tropical Sun Hat

SOLD

A very interesting original private purchase Women's Auxiliary Air Force tropical hat in well used condition.

This hat was recently discovered along with a WAAF officer's cap and is clearly a private purchase item. The construction is typical of hats made by high end hatters in the pre-war period which ties in well as many WAAF officer's came from affluent backgrounds. The body of the cap is made from a tan coloured cotton drill which shows signs of sun fading and washing and broken down into a soft feeling very pliable cap. It features rows of stitching to the brim  and an RAF brass cap badge has been fitted to the front. Whilst not an officer's pattern badge, it was most likely fitted to give the cap a more military bearing.

The interior of the cap features a lining which is again heavily worn but is very typical of the period. A large label made from silk is fitted to the crown and is again typical of high quality hats from the pre-war period. Sadly it has been worn away with only some parts being slightly legible. Those parts that are look like similar graphics used by hatters such as 'Bates' and 'Lock & Co' during the WW2 period.

The hat is approximately a size 6 7/8.

The hat displays well with signs of wear and use. It is a vintage item so please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.

A nice and very interesting private purchase hat which would make a great addition to any WAAF collection.
