Original WW2 ATS Officer's Service Dress Tunic - Large Size

Original WW2 ATS Officer's Service Dress Tunic - Large Size

Code: 54314

SOLD

An original Auxiliary Territorial Service officer's service dress tunic which was made in Cairo during the Second World War.

This pattern of tunic was worn by officers of the ATS throughout WW2 and was based on the men's version. It is made from a barathea wool and features pleated breast pockets and bellows pockets to the skirts. An economy version was produced in the mid-war period which did not have these features which could suggest that this is an early war example. The jacket is fitted with brass General Service buttons as well as officer's pattern ATS collar badges to the collar. Three metal rank stars are fitted to each epaulette which denote the rank of Captain and an ATS collar lanyard is fitted to the right shoulder.

The interior of the tunic features a full lining and there is a hanging loop at the neck. Below this is the original tailors label which bears the maker's name of 'Hassan Mohamed Indian Tailor' and the Cairo address. A large number of British personnel were stationed in Cairo during the war and many had new uniforms made whilst they were there.

The tunic is a larger size which should fit a 34" bust well. When laid flat it measures -

Bust - 19"
Waist - 16"
Inside arm - 18 1/4"
Outside arm - 24 1/2"
Shoulders - 16"
Length - 29"

The tunic is in very good condition with only limited signs of wear and age. There are no serious flaws and it displays very well but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage pre-wien item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A very nice original theatre made example in great condition.
