An original example of an WW2 Auxiliary Territorial Service Handbag, dating from the Second World War.
This handbag is the standard pattern issued to members of the ATS throughout the Second World War and features a canvas body, brass 'D.O.T.' branded zipper and leather shoulder strap. This has been broken which is reflected in the price and could be repaired.
Inside the bag the original maker's stamp is still present and reads 'C.W.S' which denotes the Co-operative Worker's Society, better known today as the Co-op. There is also a War Department inspection stamp featuring the broad arrow and inspector's number.
The condition of the bag is very good in general. It has clearly seen little use and the canvas is clean. As previously mentioned there is a break in the leather and another section which has a split, both of which are illustrated in the pictures. The brass lightening zipper functions as it should although is a little stiff and would benefit from lubrication.
These original handbags are now getting harder to find!
