A scarce pair of original Auxiliary Territorial Service shoes dated 1945 and in a size 4L.
This pattern of shoes was worn throughout the Second World War by women serving in the ATS. This pair are deadstock, unworn examples which were still fastened together by their laces as they would have been whilst in the stores. This is illustrated in the final attached picture.
The shoes are made from a brown coloured leather which features a pebbled finish. Five eyelets are present through which the original laces are fitted. Both the soles and heels are leather and show no signs of previous wear or use. The size of 4L and the War Department broad arrow marking are stamped to the soles.
Inside the shoes all of the original markings are present. One side reads 'ATS Size 4L' whilst the maker's name of 'S. Boswell & Co. Ltd' and the 1945 date are present to the other. The War Department acceptance stamp is also present inside each shoe as is illustrated in picture 9.
The shoes are in excellent condition with no signs of previous wear or use. They display very well with no damage or flaws. They are however a vintage item so please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind they may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A fantastic pair of original wartime women's shoes which would be very hard to upgrade.
