Original 1943 Dated Women's Land Army Breeches - Size 6

Original 1943 Dated Women's Land Army Breeches - Size 6

Code: 54655

An original pair of Women's Land Army breeches made in 1943 and in a size 6.

Officially designated 'Breeches, Corduroy Women's Land Army', these are one of the most iconic parts of the WLA uniform from the Second World War. The breeches are made from a caramel coloured corduroy and feature a side buttoning closure as was standard on womenswear of the period. They fasten with brown coloured vegetable ivory (plastic) buttons which are often found on items made in 1943. The breeches close around the calf with laces as is standard for this pattern and belt loops are positioned around the waist.

The original label is still present inside the waistband of the breeches and is still bright and legible. It states the size as No. 6 and bears the War Department broad arrow stamp as well as the 1943 date. The maker's name of 'J. E. Hoyle & Co' is also present. Adjacent to this is a War Department inspection stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'M' which denotes 1944 as the year of issue.

When laid flat the breeches measure -

Waist - 13"
Rise - 14"
Rear rise - 19 1/2"
Inside leg - 22"
Outside leg - 34 1/2"
Calf - 6 1/2"
Cuff - 6"

The breeches are in excellent condition with only limited signs of wear and use. Overall they display very well and are in good wearable condition. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A very nice pair of WLA breeches with a nice early date. These would make a good addition to any home front collection.
