SOLD

An original Women's Civil Defence ARP 71 Tunic dating from1943 and in good condition.

This pattern of tunic was introduced in the early part of the Second World War for women serving in the Civil Defence and was worn with either the ARP 73 Slacks or ARP 72 skirt. Made from a dark navy blue serge wool, the tunic features four front pockets; a waist belt with nickel plated waist buckle, black plastic Civil Defence buttons and a Polish collar which is worn open but can be fastened around the neck. The jacket comes complete with its original embroidered 'Warden' titles to the top of each sleeve.

Inside the tunic the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Tunic Patt No A-R-P 71' and states the size as No. 8 and the maker's name of 'Johnson & Co. Ltd'. The 1943 date is present as is the War Department broad arrow marking.

When laid flat the tunic measures -

Chest - 20"
Waist - 16"
Inside arm - 15 1/2"
Outside arm - 23"
Shoulders - 14"
Length - 25"

The tunic is in good condition for its age with signs of wear and use. Overall the tunic displays well but it does have some moth grazes as well as a couple of small holes to each sleeve. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

This is a nice original tunic with a very clear label and complete with the correct buttons and badges. This would make a nice addition to any Home Front collection without a doubt!
