An original women's poplin cotton blouse dating from the 1940s and in good condition, complete with matching collar.
This pattern of blouse was worn by women serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service as well as other women's branches of service. It is made from a tan khaki coloured poplin cotton and features a full button front and a neckband collar to which a detachable collar can be fitted. There are no markings or dates inside the shirt meaning it is not possible to date it exactly. It is however the correct construction and material used during the 1940s and the buttons are also from this period.
When laid flat the blouse measures -
Chest - 20 1/4"
Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 21 1/2"
Shoulders - 14"
Length at back - 25"
The shirt is in good condition with signs of previous wear or use. Overall it is a wearable example but it does have some marks etc and some of the buttons are period replacements. It is of course a vintage item so please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind it may have small flaws commensurate with age.
The shirt comes complete with a matching collar which bears the maker's initials of 'JCCL' followed by the War Department broad arrow marking. The size of 2 is also present and the original owner has marked her serial number in ink which reads W/350754.
A nice original WW2 period women's blouse in good condition.
